2-3 March 2020 | 1st ARCA Global Conference

Event name: 1st ARCA Global Conference

Date: 2-3 March 2020

Venue: Denver, USA

Information about the Conference

The 1st conference of the ARCA Global network, held in Denver, USA, March 2nd-3rd, 2020, aims to advance a global consortium for translational studies in autosomal-recessive ataxias (ARCAs), ARCA Global. ARCA Global is a dynamic, collaborative translational research initiative ultimately aiming to prepare and conduct harmonized multi-center treatment trials in genetically stratified ARCAs, thus allowing to translate the recent progress in ARCA genetics directly into stringent targeted treatment trials. It will integrate all main stakeholder groups including basic and clinician scientists, industry, and patient organizations. ARCA Global will aggregate ARCA patients and expertise from centers worldwide in close collaboration with patient organizations to facilitate all crucial translational steps on this path towards trial-readiness. It will:

  • aggregate registry-inventoried ARCA cohorts from across the world
  • perform genetic fingerprinting of unsolved ARCA patients, including defining novel ARCA genes and pathways
  • lead standardized preclinical compound trials in ARCA model systems
  • chart the natural history of ARCAs
  • establish trial-ready clinical, imaging and molecular outcome measures for ARCAs
  • implement first-in-human drug trials and prepare phase II and III studies in ARCAs.

There will be ample time allocated for both structured discussions led by peers and for informal discussion and social interactions to facilitate collaboration between all stakeholders and to systematically discuss criteria and infrastructure for global trial-readiness in ARCAs.

This 1st ARCA Global Conference will dovetail with the 8th Ataxia Investigators Meeting of the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) to be held in Denver from March 3-6th, allowing interaction between ataxia investigators from two key ataxia meetings, as well as with patients/families/caregivers and industry partners.

Registration

Registration for ARCA Global 2020 has already opened. Please register early since space is limited. You can register via the following link here

Conference Agenda

You will find the agenda of the conference here. Please note that this is the latest version (updated 19.02.2020).

Abstract submissions

Please submit your abstract by 6 January 2020. You will find more information about the themes and abstract submission guidelines here.

Flash talks

The conference will also include a new format: project brainstorming flash talks. This format allows to give a brief talk on your innovative ideas and projects you would like to run within ARCA GLOBAL. Talks should be maximal 3 minutes – we will stop each talk strictly after 180 seconds.
For detailed criteria for these talks, please see here.
Project proposals will be reviewed and selected by the ARCA GLOBAL steering committee. Please use the project template for your project proposal and submit to Emily Cutting, Ataxia UK, (ecutting@ataxia.org.uk) no later than January 25th, 2020.

Hotel Reservations

The Sheraton Denver Downtown is the official conference hotel of the 2020 ARCA Global Conference. It is located at 1550 Court Place, Denver CO 80202. Hotel reservations at the group rate will remain available at until February 1, 2020. A credit card is required at the time of booking.

Report – First SCA Global Conference

Conference information

The first conference of the SCA Global initiative was held in Las Vegas from 27 to 29 March 2019. Researchers from around the world, industry and patient organizations have formed a global collaboration in clinical research efforts for Spinocerebellar Ataxias (SCA). SCA Global was created to address the obstacles that clinical investigators are having with a lack of natural history study data and validated biomarkers for Ataxia.

Conference programme

Please find here the programme of the 1st SCA Global Conference.

Conference Sponsors

In view of the emerging treatment for SCAs, there is the urgent need to increase trial readiness. To this end, SCA Global will strive to achieve the following objectives:

  • to provide added value through a global SCA research platform that is based on exchange and sharing
  • to establish large, well characterized, standardised trial ready cohorts,
  • to precisely define the evolution of clinical outcomes across all SCAs and different world regions,
  • to better characterise the pre-ataxia stage of all SCAs,
  • to develop and validate imaging and biochemical biomarkers,
  • to attract young talent and to improve education and training of clinical investigators.

Outcome of the conference

As an outcome of the SCA Global conference four working groups (WGs) were formed:

  • Clinical outcome assessments (COAs)
  • MR biomarkers
  • Standards of biosampling
  • SCA Global policies

ERN-RND will be partnering with SCA Global. Two of the four working groups will be led by ERN-RND members: Thomas Klockgether leads the Clinical Outcome Assessment WG and Holm Graessner leads the SCA Global Policies WG.

SCA Global Conference 2020

The next SCA Global conference will be organised in April 2020 in Bonn, Germany.
